Loveland Group’s 2021 ‘Call for Artists’ Winner: Doriana Diaz
About The Loveland Group LLC & Akron Art Museum’s ‘Call for Artists’ to celebrate One Year in Loveland.
To mark our first anniversary, The Loveland Group LLC collaborated with the Akron Art Museum to launch a ‘Call for Artists’ to create posters inspired by the shared values in our organizations’ missions.
After selected as the 2021 winner, Doriana’s poster was printed for a limited series run to be sold online and at Elizabeth’s Bookshop in Akron, OH. All proceeds will raise funds for both The Loveland Foundation, Inc. and The Akron Art Museum.
About Doriana.
Doriana Diaz is a storyteller, shapeshifter, and sensitive spirit rooted in Philadelphia's soulful rhythms. Her work centers Afro artistic ancestries and archival documentation. She is the founder and curator of The Diaz Collections (@thediazcollections) an archival vessel channeling ancestral exploration of Black creative wellness.
She believes art has DNA. Those who breathe the bloodline into narrative/story/creativity will one day move beyond this dimension but their artistry remains a loud whisper from within the caverns of their wounds/glory/power/presence. Our art is our inheritance. It is a form of one's souls’ communication; a remembering, a delicate pouring of transcendent libations that shall move beyond time.
About the Art.
"My true goal with this work is to portray a feeling that could attempt to capture the nuances of our joy in motion - it is the melting candle wax, the sways of hips moving to love-drenched rhythms. It is the sounds of King and Coltrane's anthems. It feels like a Friday evening cookout with Black palms rising from the soil pressed together in prayer. "
